Tanner Muse says his brother, a USC tight end, in high spirits during ACL recovery
South Carolina tight end Nick Muse isn’t off crutches yet following his torn ACL, but he is moving around the country.
Saturday he was on his way from the Carolinas to New Orleans to watch his brother, Tanner, and Clemson face LSU for a national title. Saturday morning, the older brother gave a little update.
“He’s on crutches still,” Tanner Muse said. “(He will) need them another week or so, the crutches, and then they’ll be off. But he’s still good. He’s with his parents. The guy is back home with mom and dad to take care of him, so he’s living the dream.”
Nick Muse, who grew up in the Charlotte area, spent his first two seasons at William and Mary before transferring to USC this summer. He was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA after South Carolina’s first game.
He rose to the role of No. 2 tight end at a thin position before tearing an ACL late in the season. With Kyle Markway choosing to forego his sixth year of eligibility, Muse heads into 2020 as the presumptive starter.
He posted 158 yards on 17 catches in 2019.
The injury meant the brothers couldn’t match up with one another in the Palmetto Bowl, something they’d actually never done before. When they were high school teammates, Nick was still a lineman and linebacker while his brother played defensive back.
The pair did get to meet on the field before the Clemson-South Carolina matchup this year.
The older brother said Nick Muse remains in high spirits, not much of a surprise considering he brought an optimistic attitude to even USC’s struggles this season.
And Nick Muse has to dodge one other possible pitfall: the trap of home cooking.
“He’ll mess around and get fat,” Tanner Muse said. “He’s already got cankles. I get on him all the time. But he’s doing good, recovery is going well. They’ve got a good staff over there. So, you know, the best is in front of him.”
