Why Gamecocks star Bryan Edwards will miss Senior Bowl
A strong week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama helped propel former South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel into the upper echelons of last year’s NFL Draft.
Five former Gamecocks were set to take their shot in Mobile this week, but one will have to sit it out.
Wide receiver Bryan Edwards was not listed on the roster anymore as of Monday morning and he confirmed to The State he dropped out because his knee was not 100 percent. He missed the final two games of the 2019 season because of a knee injury required a scope after the Appalachian State game.
Other Gamecocks set to participate in the game are defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, defensive end D.J. Wonnum, linebacker T.J. Brunson and punter Joseph Charlton. The week of practices and all-star game give players chances to interact with NFL teams and scouts.
Edwards, from Conway High, set the USC program records for catches (234) and receiving yards (3,045). He blossomed as a senior after deciding against leaving early, putting up a career high in catches and nearly hitting career marks in yards and touchdowns in three fewer games.
The Senior Bowl is Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. It will be broadcast on NFL Network.
