Official measurements are in. How big some Gamecocks football seniors actually were
The Senior Bowl week can often be an unmasking moment of sorts for NFL draft prospects. Schools are often a bit generous with official measurements, but the measurements before the all-star game are not.
A trio of South Carolina players seem to have come through mostly unscathed.
Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, defensive end DJ Wonnum, linebacker TJ Brunson and punter Joseph Charlton are in Mobile, Alabama. All four measured in and none came out too badly.
That’s an inch shorter and five pounds heavier than his listed numbers on the Gamecocks roster, so not too much of a shift. He’s still tall for a defensive tackle. Pro Football focus listed him at No. 12 among all prospects in the 2019 draft.
“With multiple seasons of elite grades as a pass-rusher and prototypical size, length and get-off, Kinlaw is an extremely safe bet to translate to the NFL,” PFF’s Michael Renner wrote.
Wonnum lost an inch, though he had been listed at 6-foot-4 at some point in his college career, and was down 6 pounds. He put up 4 1/2 sacks, 9 1/2 tackles for loss in 2019, coming off a mostly lost 2018 season.
South Carolina’s second-leading tackler, Brunson, checked in down an inch and 11 pounds from his listed roster weight.
Not that it matters much at all for a punter, but Charlton also came in an inch shorter than his listed 6-foot-5 on the USC roster.
