Former Gamecocks assistant lands with new SEC program
Entering his fifth season after leaving the South Carolina football staff, Deke Adams has never strayed all that far geographically.
On Friday, he was officially announced as the defensive line coach for Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels. He’s going across the state as he spent last season with Joe Moorhead’s Mississippi State squad.
His two years before that were spent at UNC with Larry Fedora following one year at East Carolina, which included a trip to Columbia.
Adams spent three seasons with the Gamecocks, spanning the final three years of the Steve Spurrier era. He inherited a group with Kelcy Quarles, Jadeveon Clowney and Chaz Sutton, and after coaching on a 11-2 team in 2013, South Carolina’s defense struggled the next two seasons.
He departed as most of Spurrier’s staff was not retained following 2015.
He came to USC after stints at Southern Miss and North Carolina.
His son Jordyn Adams starred at Blythewood High School and went on to be picked in the first round of the MLB draft.
In a twist of fate, Adams is the second former Gamecock to coach Kiffin’s defensive line in as many seasons. Former Will Muschamp staffer Lance Thompson was on Kiffin’s FAU staff.
