South Carolina football set to lose a key member of recruiting operation
South Carolina football will soon lose a key member of its recruiting operation, The State has learned.
Director of player personnel Matt Lindsey is in the process of taking a new job, but he will stay on board in the short term. SportsTalk SC first reported the news.
AL.com’s Matt Zenitz reported that Lindsey will join Lane Kiffin’s staff at Ole Miss in a similar role.
Lindsey joined Will Muschamp’s staff before the 2017 season. He came from the Philadelphia Eagles, where he had worked since 2013.
He went to school at Alabama and worked as part of Nick Saban’s recruiting operation.
At USC, he handled a variety of jobs, including breaking down recruits and making evaluations to pass along to coaches.
“I think he’s a really good evaluator, you know, as far as just being able to understand and identify the things that we’re looking for,” Muschamp said in December. “Very organized on day-to-day operation, I don’t have a lot of time, but I’m going to watch every single player, offense, defense, everything. We call them point-of-attack tapes and ... they work hard to put those tapes together for me to be able to see, and it’s not just the good plays.”
The team lost defensive line coach John Scott to Penn State over the weekend. It was also reported that running backs coach Thomas Brown will leave to join the staff of the Los Angeles Rams.
