Dakereon Joyner to receiver full-time, another former 4-star set to change position

Two former four-star South Carolina football recruits will be playing at new positions this spring, according to an update of South Carolina’s football roster.

Former quarterback Dakereon Joyner will be at wide receiver full-time, confirming indications the staff has given all offseason. Keveon Mullins, a four-star freshman who played receiver last season, is moving to tight end.

“Versatile performer who is expected to focus full-time on the wide receiver position this spring after working at both quarterback and wide receiver last fall,” Joyner’s bio says.

Joyner started playing receiver early last season when he lost the backup quarterback job to Ryan Hilinski. When Jake Bentley was injured in the opener, Joyner was forced into a backup QB role.

He bounced between the positions, battled a hamstring injury and had to step in to lead South Carolina to an upset against No. 3 Georgia.

Mullin’s bio reads: “Redshirt freshman who transitions from a wide receiver position to tight end this spring.”

Mullins didn’t play in a game last season, despite a run of injuries at South Carolina’s receiver spot. He’s listed at 6-foot-1, 220 pounds.

He was a four-star recruit, No. 315 in his class in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

The roster also lists former QB/WR Jay Urich as sticking with the quarterbacks in the spring.
