Kinlaw won’t work out at NFL Combine. Edwards outlines recovery timeline

Two of the five former South Carolina football stars at the NFL Combine won’t actually take the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and one won’t be ready for the Gamecocks’ Pro Day, according to reports.

Defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw, a projected first-round pick in most mock drafts, will not participate in on-field work after rehabbing from knee tendinitis, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Rapoport added that Kinlaw was healthy but hadn’t trained for the combine, so he decided to skip the traditional drills and wait until South Carolina’s Pro Day on March 19.

Wide receiver Bryan Edwards had already been ruled out after breaking his foot in training for the combine. On Wednesday, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reported that Edwards said the recovery time on his injury was eight to 12 weeks, meaning he wouldn’t be back on the field until around May or so. That rules him out for South Carolina’s Pro Day.

Edwards is considered a Day 2 prospect for the draft.

Edwards was still at the combine to talk with the media, meet teams and get measured — he checked in at 6-foot-3, 212 pounds, with 32 1/4-inch arms, 9 1/2-inch hands and a 79 5/8-inch wingspan, seventh longest of all wide receivers.

Some of the other Gamecock invitees to the Combine got measured as well — running back Rico Dowdle was 5-foot-11, 213 pounds, with 31 3/8-inch arms and 9 1/2-inch hands. Punter Joseph Charlton was 6-foot-4, 195 pounds, 32 3/8-inch arms and 8 1/2-inch hands. Defensive lineman D.J. Wonnum has yet to be measured.

On-field drills begin at the Combine begin Thursday, with Dowdle and Charlton working out with their position groups Saturday and Wonnum following Sunday.
