Where South Carolina football ranks in the odds to win the SEC

At the start of each college football season, South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp says the goal is the same. Win the SEC East, go to Atlanta for the title game and beat Clemson along the way.

According to Las Vegas, the odds to make that trip down I-20 to Mercedes-Benz Stadium are on the long side.

The Gamecocks are in a six-way tie behind six teams at 100 to 1 odds according to a graphic of SportsBetting.ag odds posted by CBS’s Barrett Sallee.

USC is behind favorite Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida Auburn and Texas A&M. The other teams at 100/1 are Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Missouri and Tennessee.

South Carolina finished tied for fourth in the SEC East last season. USC’s best finish with Muschamp was second in 2017. They are coming off a 4-8 season.

The Gamecocks have only won the SEC East once, in 2010, and lost to Cam Newton’s Auburn team. The 2020 season is set to open on Sept. 5 against Coastal Carolina.
