Win total over/under projected for Gamecocks football in 2020
At one point this offseason, South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp said in Columbia, a bowl game every season is the minimum expectation.
According to the oddsmakers at DraftKings, his team projects to be right on the borderline of that.
In a set of projected win totals for every FBS team, the Gamecocks were given an over/under of 5.5. That came in only better than Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Ole Miss.
The schedule does not align favorably in terms of the abundance of high-end opponents heading into Muschamp’s fifth season -- USC gets Georgia, LSU and Clemson to end the season. The easier games should be considerably easier than in 2019 as the Gamecocks replace UNC and App State with East Carolina and Coastal.
By the SP+ rankings, USC projects to be an underdog in seven games, five by at least two touchdowns.
The Gamecocks should be hefty favorites against Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Wofford and Vanderbilt (at least 13.5 points in each), and project as an 8.5-point favorite against Missouri at home.
Coming off a 4-8 season, the Gamecocks likely need to bounce-back to help Muschamp after a season that ended with talk of his buyout and questions from the school’s new president, Robert Caslen.
The Gamecocks had made bowls in 10 of the 11 seasons before 2019.
