Gamecock football, basketball assistants, three head coaches to get contract extensions
The Board of Trustees of the University of South Carolina handed out some deals on Monday.
A total of eight Gamecocks assistant or head coaches are set to get one-year contract extensions Friday. There were no raises given. Each deal is through their team’s season that ends in 2021, except for golf coach Bill McDonald and softball coach Beverly Smith, who were signed through 2022.
The group was:
Football assistant Bobby Bentley: $400,000
Football assistant Mike Peterson: $300,000
Men’s basketball assistant Perry Clark: $265,000
Men’s basketball assistant Chuck Martin: $300,000
Women’s basketball assistant Lisa Boyer: $300,000
Track coach Curtis Frye: $251,572
Men’s golf coach Bill McDonald: $170,037
Softball coach Beverly Smith: $201,430
Bentley and Peterson were members of Will Muschamp’s original staff in 2016. Clark has been with Frank Martin for almost his entire tenure, while Chuck Martin joined up a few years ago.
Through her first nine years, Smith went 316-215 with seven postseason appearances, including a NCAA Super Regional trip in 2018. McDonald has been in Columbia since 2007, and his tenure included at least 24 tournament wins and multiple NCAA trips.
Frye has been leading the Gamecocks for 24 years. He’s had 60 NCAA champions and 121 SEC champions, with more than a few future Olympians in that mix.
