Former Gamecock football player lands in-state coaching job
Former South Carolina football player K.C. Crosby has coaching in his blood. His father Kevin was a longtime successful coach at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School and Orangeburg-Wilkinson.
And now K.C. Crosby is stepping into the profession.
Oceanside Collegiate Academy announced on its Facebook page that K.C. Crosby will join the staff of new head coach Joe Call. Crosby played with the Gamecocks through the 2018 season.
“I am really happy to be able to add KC Crosby to the Oceanside football staff and family!” Call wrote. “He is a great addition to our football staff and he will be able to coach and assist in many different ways. He comes from a great football family and played for one of the top high school football programs in the state of South Carolina (Bamburg HS). I have known KC for a long time and he brings tremendous work ethic and excitement to Oceanside! We are so excited that he Chose to be a Shark!!”
Crosby was a three-star recruit who came to Columbia with the potential to play offense or defense, but settled in as a tight end.
He had to wait as a redshirt and reserve his first two seasons, but became a starter as the second tight end in coach Will Muschamp’s first season (the team was extremely short at receiver). He saw the next season, 2017, end early because of a leg injury, but rallied back to play in 12 games, starting nine, as a senior.
He put up 217 yards and four scores as a sophomore and 149 yards his final year. He got a tryout with the New York Giants after going undrafted last spring.
He majored in interdisciplinary studies.
Oceanside is going through transition after going 12-1 on the field last year and having to forfeit four games. Former coach Chad Grier left to coach Charlotte power Providence Day, and Call, former coach of Summerville, took over.
