Alshon Jeffery surprises high school seniors in his SC hometown with special gift
Calhoun County High School seniors were greeted with a special surprise Monday when they dropped off their classwork and materials at the school.
Pictures of the seniors were placed throughout the school grounds. Money to pay for those pictures was donated by Philadelphia Eagles receiver Alshon Jeffery, who played at Calhoun County and later with the University of South Carolina.
“He wanted to give back to the community and school district he went to, especially in these unusual times,” said Antjuan Seawright, who handles Jeffery’s marketing and community outreach. “He didn’t want their accomplishment of high graduation lost and wanted to know he is proud of them.”
The high school will hold an in-person graduation ceremony at 9 a.m. June 6 at the football stadium.
Jeffery has been a strong supporter of his high school alma mater. In 2017, Jeffery hosted a football camp and community fun day at the school. More than 600 kids and community members showed up for the daylong affair.
Jeffery was a standout football and basketball player at Calhoun County High. He led the Saints to four state basketball titles and had more than 1,700 yards receiving and 28 touchdown catches in his final two years on the gridiron.
Jeffery has played eight seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018.
“I’m from Calhoun County, St. Matthews, a small town. It means a lot giving back to these kids and community,” Jeffery said in 2017. “Calhoun made me, so the sky is the limit for these kids, and I am trying to give them everything I didn’t experience so they can experience it and go on beyond that.”
