Academics could delay one incoming Gamecock’s enrollment

South Carolina football might have to wait things out for junior college running back Zaquandre White.

Gamecocks coach Will Mushcamp said on an appearance with SportsTalk Radio on Tuesday that White is still finishing up his classes and might not make it in as early as the rest of the summer enrollees.

“Zaqunadre is still working through a couple classes here in June and he probably will not be here with us till August,” Muschamp said. “He’s gonna finish up two classes, and probably I would say that the date on that would be done in the middle of July.”

Mushamp said he is still confident White will make it in.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound White will come to South Carolina from Iowa Western Community College, where he reasserted himself as a running back. The former Florida State player started his career in the backfield but was moved to linebacker his sophomore season.

White is the No. 1 junior college running back and No. 15 overall JUCO player in the country, according to 247Sports. He was a four-star recruit and the No. 141 player in his class when he first enrolled at FSU.

Last season, White was second in the national junior college rankings with 109.5 rushing yards per game. He only played in eight games, but posted 876 yards, 10 touchdowns and averaged 6.4 yards per carry. He made 22 tackles in his last season at FSU.

Muschamp also gave injury updates on four players, all of them positive.

Tight end Jaheim Bell (torn ACL): “Jaheim Bell sends me a video every day. He looks great. He’s moving around. You can call him, and man, are you sure you’ve been cleared to do all this stuff. So, but he looks great. He’s explosive. He’s quick out of cuts. He’s going to be a guy that can be kind of a combo guy for us. He’s physical enough to block his point of attack but I think he’s going to be a good mismatch in coverage.”

Tight end Nick Muse (torn ACL): “Another guy you got to, we got to slow him down in the training process. Him and his brother, they go and push cars and do fun stuff like that. I’m calling him, making sure he’s cleared to do all this stuff and, but he’s looks really good running and we feel like he’ll be full speed once we go.”

Offensive lineman Dylan Wonnum (hip surgery): “Dylan Wonnum is doing great. He’s working with a trainer in Atlanta right now, but he’s moving around extremely well. He ought to be full speed when we get back.”

Quarterback Collin Hill (torn ACL): “Talked to Mike Bobo today about Colin. He did some under-center work with some guys he’s throwing with over in Dorman, and he feels really good about his knee.”
