Former Gamecock begins coaching career with Midlands high school program
Jacob August wrapped up his college football career at South Carolina in 2018 and is ready to get into coaching.
August is joining the Gray Collegiate football staff and will coach the team’s linebackers. He becomes the third former Gamecock on the War Eagles staff, joining head coach Adam Holmes and offensive line/strength coach Cory Helms.
“We always love adding former Gamecocks and want to help them out,” Holmes said. “He fills a void that we had. He has a great mind for the game and his youth and energy. Guys like Jacob and Cory playing a few years ago, our guys can relate to them.”
August played in high school at Cardinal Newman before walking on at South Carolina after a year at Fork Union Military. He earned a scholarship with the Gamecocks in 2017.
In 43 career games at USC, at tight end for the Gamecocks, August caught 23 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns.
Gray Collegiate is coming off its best season in school history last year. The War Eagles went 10-3 and advanced to the third round of the Class 2A playoffs for the first time before losing to Abbeville, 38-35.
