Deebo Samuel breaks foot, will miss the start of NFL season
Former South Carolina football star Deebo Samuel beat the injury bug that had nagged him through his college career to set a rookie receiving record with the San Francisco 49ers last season.
But the ex-Gamecock Will miss the start of his second NFL season.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first tweeted Samuel broke his foot while working out with teammates in Nashville. Samuel tweeted about it later on, saying he will miss 10 weeks, a little less than the 3-4 month timeline that was reported earlier.
Foot and leg issues were a consistent problem for Samuel in his time in Columbia.
Later in the day, Samuel tweeted he’ll only miss 10 weeks.
After hamstring issues limited him to five games as a redshirt freshman and cost him nearly four as a sophomore. He started his junior year is one of the most explosive play makers in the country, but saw his season end first with A broken bone in his leg, and then a foot injury that scuttled any hope of a come back.
He managed to play every regular season game as a senior, catching 62 passes for 882 yards and 11 touchdowns, and decided not to participate in the bowl game to avoid injury.
After being selected near the top of the second round of the NFL draft, he played in 15 games as a rookie. He got 57 passes for 802 yards, the latter number a franchise record. he was also a versatile play-making threat, adding 159 yards on the ground at 11.4 yards per carry.
