South Carolina make final two for five-star dual-threat quarterback
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton has offers from about everyone, Alabama, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Southern Cal.
But Thursday, the five-star recruit said all those teams are out of the running. The only ones left: South Carolina and Georgia.
“Want to thank my family, my teammates, my coaches and every school that has recruited me for the last two years,” Stockton wrote in a tweet. “With that being said I am down to my final two schools, so I can focus on my junior season at Rabun County. Please no interviews at this time. Thank you and God Bless!”
A starter since his freshman year, Stockton has been on South Carolina’s campus several times and has ties to both the families of Gamecocks great Connor Shaw and current offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.
Stockton’s high school coach is Jaybo Shaw, Connor’s brother, and his coach before was Jaybo’s father. Mike Bobo’s father George used to coach at Rabun County and helped out with Stockton at points.
At 6-foot-1, 212 pounds, Stockton threw for 3,473 yards last season, with 43 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He also ran for 1,126 yards and 19 touchdowns.
He led the Tigers to a 12-1 record last season, averaging 44.5 points per game.
Stockton is currently the No. 32 player in the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s the top dual-threat passer in the land and No. 4 player in Georgia.
