Elliott Fry cut by Tampa to make room for another former Gamecock

One Gamecock is departing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster, and another former South Carolina player is set to replace him.

Kicker Elliott Fry was cut to make room for Ryan Succop, the team announced. The pair of kickers are among the all-time leading scorers in USC history.

In 2016, Fry became the school’s top scorer with 359 points. He was the top kicker from 2013-2016, catching the final of South Carolina’s 11-win season, going through the end of the Spurrier era and start of the Muschamp era.

He has bounced around since graduating, coaching a little high school ball in Columbia, hitting every kick he took in the AAF for Spurrier and spending time with Chicago, Baltimore and Carolina.

Succop was a three-year starter from 2006-2008, hitting 71 percent of his field goals and punting for two seasons. He’s been a consistent member of the NFL since 2009 for the Tennessee Titians and Kansas City Chiefs.

He’s hit 82.2 percent of his field goals in the NFL. He has 1,046 points, 57th on the all-time scoring list.
