Gamecock football betting odds for 2020 national title? They’re higher than you think
Most of the talk around South Carolina’s 2020 football season centers on a schedule that sits among the fifth hardest in the land and question about what Will Muschamp must show in a season that could produce record lows in terms of coaching movement.
Discussion of division titles hasn’t been much on the front burner, let alone a national title. Yet by the latest odds from Betonline.ag, South Carolina comes in ahead of a few programs getting more hype.
The Gamecocks were listed at 50/1 odds to win a national championship, tied with Florida State, Iowa State, Louisville and UCF behind only 12 other teams in a list of all 77 playing this year. The Gamecocks have only won one division title (2010 SEC East) and one conference title (1969 ACC) in program history.
That number puts South Carolina seventh among SEC teams, a group that includes five teams on their schedule. It also puts the Gamecocks ahead of Tennessee, UNC and Virginia Tech.
It’s notable because according to the site’s odds, USC has only 28/1 odds to win its own division and actually has worse odds to win it than Tennessee.
The Gamecocks lost all their non-conference games and added dates with Ole Miss and Auburn amid the COVID pandemic. USC is set to kick off the season against the Vols on Sept. 26 in Williams-Brice Stadium.
