Star freshman Jordan Burch grabs first tackle as Gamecock with style

Welcome to college football, Jordan Burch.

South Carolina football’s star freshman made his Gamecock debut Saturday night against Tennessee and wasted no time in making his impact felt.

Coming in midway through the second quarter at the Buck position, Burch burst through the line on his second snap, blew up the play and dragged down Volunteers running back Eric Gray for a three-yard loss.

Burch was the second-highest ever rated recruit to commit to South Carolina, behind only Jadeveon Clowney. The Hammond School product chose the Gamecocks after a long, winding recruitment process, providing a shot of momentum for coach Will Muschamp’s program.

Throughout preseason camp, Burch’s teammates and coaches have praised his athleticism and talent. On the team’s depth chart released before the season opener, he was slotted in as the backup to starting Buck Kingsley Enagbare.

The Gamecocks trail Tennessee 14-7 late in the second quarter.
