Former Gamecock Elliott Fry lands with another NFC South team
Former South Carolina kicker Elliott has landed with a new NFL team.
Fry signed to the Atlanta Falcons practice squad on Thursday, the team announced Thursday but might be elevated to the active roster if Younghoe Koo can’t play Monday against Green Bay. Koo is dealing with a groin strain.
Fry was brought in for a workout this week.
“Right now, we’re keeping an extra kicker and punter on the practice squad,” Atlanta coach Dan Quinn said. “So, that’s one option if it was deemed available to do that, but the good news is we’ll take this all the way through the next few days. We do have an extra day this week with the game on a Monday night, so we’ll spend all of the time we need to research that and be prepared if we do need to.”
The Falcons will be Fry’s fifth team. He also played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens.
Fry was cut by Tampa Bay on Sept. 1 after the team signed another former Gamecock Ryan Succop.
In 2016, Fry became the South Carolina’s top scorer with 359 points. He was the top kicker from 2013-2016, catching the final of Gamecocks’ 11-win season, going through the end of the Steve Spurrier era and start of the Will Muschamp era.
