The South Carolina football program broke a lengthy losing streak to Kentucky last season.

To start a winning streak, the Gamecocks will need to win as underdogs.

The opening line from Circa sports has USC as a 13-point underdog. The over/under is 47 1/2.

USC has been an underdog in nine of 10 games this season.

The Gamecocks sit at 2-7 on the season, and either 3-5-1 or 4-5 against the spread depending on which book’s final line one looks at. They’ve not covered since Oct. 17. UK is 3-6, 3-5-1 against the spread.

The size of that line is notable because the Wildcats only average 19.6 points per game.

USC had dominated the series, winning all but one game from 2000 to 2013 (the loss was paradoxically the only Gamecocks team to win a division title, one week after upsetting No. 1 Alabama). But after Lorenzo Ward’s defense got worked by the Wildcats in Steve Spurrier’s last full season, Kentucky topped an inconsistent 2015 squad and then handed Will Muschamp teams three consecutive losses.

USC broke that streak last season, winning 24-7, but the Wildcats were playing a QB with a damaged shoulder and had not yet put star receiver Lynn Bowden at quarterback, a choice that saved their season.
