Social media roasts Shane Beamer and South Carolina’s play calling vs UT Vols

Things weren’t looking great Saturday with Tennessee jumping out to a 14-0 first quarter lead over South Carolina. A promising drive gave the Gamecocks some hope.

Everything then went from bad to worse quickly in Knoxville for USC.

Nine plays into a drive in which the Gamecocks marched 77 yards, South Carolina coaches replaced quarterback Luke Doty with Dakereon Joyner for a QB run that lost a yard and then called a trick play in which defensive lineman Jordan Burch threw a pass into the end zone that was intercepted.

The Vols responded with a 5-play, 80-yard scoring drive that took 1:18 off the clock. They built a 35-0 lead in the second quarter and led 38-7 at halftime.

Social media responded with quips, blame and vitriol for coach Shane Beamer, offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield and the first-half play-calling.

“Boy Shane Beamer and Satterfield calling plays like they playing PlayStation,” S.C. lawyer and CNN pundit Bakari Sellers tweeted. “You put a D Lineman in to throw a pass when your offense is rolling.”

Said former USC offensive lineman Mason Zandi via Twitter: “First and goal on the three and we call two trick plays? Run behind the big fellas.”

Here’s that drive recap, followed by more social media reaction to the Gamecocks’ first half.
