Live from Williams-Brice Stadium: South Carolina posts big win over Florida

The State’s Ben Portnoy, Michael Lananna and Augusta Stone are at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia for Saturday’s South Carolina football game against Florida (7:30 p.m., SEC Network). Below are the updates from the game.

What’s the South Carolina Florida score right now?

Florida cuts into South Carolina lead with fourth quarter TD

The Gators opened the fourth quarter with their first score since early in the second quarter with a 75-yard touchdown drive capped off by a 9-yard Emory Jones pass to Rick Wells.

South Carolina still leads Florida by a sizable margin at 40-17 with 14:14 to go in the game.

Gamecocks score another touchdown, total 30 unanswered points

South Carolina continued to pour on points with a six-play, 32-yard touchdown drive that ended with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Jason Brown to Jaheim Bell.

The Gamecocks have scored 30 unanswered points since early in the second quarter. South Carolina leads 40-10 with 2:53 to go in the third quarter.

South Carolina grows lead with field goal

Parker White kicked a fourth field goal to mark a career high against Florida. South Carolina extended its lead to 33-10 off a 39-yard White field goal with 8:04 to go in the third quarter.

Jabari Ellis brings in a fumble for a touchdown

Jabari Ellis, the Gamecocks’ 6-foot-3, 278-pound senior defensive lineman, recovered a Florida fumble for an 18-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter.

South Carolina has scored 20 unanswered points in the second quarter and leads Florida 30-10 with 0:46 to go in the first half.

South Carolina extends lead on fifth consecutive scoring drive

The Gamecocks extended their lead over Florida with another Parker White field goal, this one from 40 yards out. South Carolina leads Florida 23-10 with 1:13 to go in the first half.

Offensively, the Gamecocks have outgained the Gators 316 to 191 and have yet to punt the football. Florida has been forced to punt three times, while South Carolina has scored 13 unanswered points.

Jason Brown leads another Gamecocks touchdown drive

Four drives, four scores. Jason Brown’s South Carolina offense remained productive early, as Brown tossed three completions to Josh Vann for 87 yards and a touchdown.

The touchdown brought the Gamecocks’ lead to 20-10 over Florida with 7:53 to go in the second quarter.

South Carolina takes the lead again in the second quarter

The Gamecocks once again capitalized on an explosive run, this time from Kevin Harris. The SEC’s leading rusher of 2020 had gotten to a slow start in 2021, but he appeared comfortable in his longest run of the season.

Harris rushed 39 yards to Gator territory, setting South Carolina up for a go-ahead field goal. Parker White sailed the ball in from 35 yards, and the Gamecocks retook the lead at 13-10 with 11:31 to go in the second quarter.

Florida ties it up with the Gamecocks to start the second quarter

Florida quarterback Emory Jones led another Gator offensive charge, highlighted by a 61-yard pass to Marcus Burke. The Gators weren’t able to find the end zone again, settling for a 30-yard Chris Howard field goal to tie the game up at 10-10 with 14:52 to go in the second quarter.

Gamecocks regain lead thanks to ZaQuandre White runs

Running back ZaQuandre White broke free for a 54-yard run that set up South Carolina’s second scoring drive of the night. The Gamecocks pieced together an efficient five-play, 75-yard charge to the end zone to go ahead 10-7 with 2:39 to go in the first quarter.

73 of the 75 yards accumulated in the Gamecocks’ touchdown drive came off of rushing plays, and 71 of those yards were tallied by White.

Florida pulls ahead with quick touchdown drive

Florida responded to the Gamecocks’ opening drive field goal with a quick touchdown, elevated by a 52-yard completion from Emory Jones to Justin Shorter to South Carolina’s 23-yard line.

The Gators led the Gamecocks 7-3 with 4:47 to go in the first quarter.

South Carolina gets on the board first

The Gamecocks struck first in Columbia, putting together a 13-play, 65-yard drive that took 7 minutes off the clock and ended up with a field goal attempt.

Parker White sailed it in from 39 yards out to give South Carolina the first lead of the game, 3-0, with 6:19 to go in the first quarter.

Starting offensive lineman ‘doubtful’ for remainder for season

Right tackle Dylan Wonnum is “doubtful” to return this season after suffering a back injury, head coach Shane Beamer told radio play-by-play broadcaster Todd Ellis on a pregame radio show. Beamer declared Wonnum out for the Florida game during his Thursday night radio call-in show.

Wonnum, a senior and three-year starter at the right tackle position, hasn’t played since the Tennessee game on Oct. 9. Redshirt freshman Tyshawn Wannamaker has filled the position in his absence.

Zeb Noland running in warmups, Jason Brown expected to start

Quarterback Zeb Noland was on the field stretching during the early part of warmups on Saturday. Noland underwent a procedure to address a torn meniscus in his right knee during last week’s bye.

A team source confirmed to The State on Friday that Jason Brown is expected to be South Carolina’s third different starting quarterback this season against Florida. Matt Zenitz of On3.com first reported the news.

Brown completed 8 of 14 passes for 84 yards, one TD and two INTs in USC’s loss at Texas A&M two weeks ago.

Gamecocks uniform report

South Carolina is rolling with white helmets, garnet jerseys and garnet pants for this week’s night kickoff with the Gators.
