Frank Beamer, father of South Carolina’s Shane Beamer, earns ACC football honor
Legendary Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer will be honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Beamer — the father of South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer — is one of 14 inductees in the ACC’s 2021 Football Honors Class, per a release. The group will be honored on Dec. 3 at the Blumenthal Arts Center’s Booth Playhouse in Charlotte and again the following day at the ACC Football Championship Game.
The longtime Virginia Tech head coach won 238 games during his 29 years in Blacksburg, Virginia. Beamer led the Hokies to bowl eligibility in each of his final 23 years as the head coach. He was the winningest active head coach in college football upon his retirement in 2015 and ranks sixth all-time among FBS head coaches with 280 total wins.
Other members of the 2021 class include Clemson kicker David Treadwell, Pittsburgh quarterback Dan Marino, Miami receiver Reggie Wayne, N.C. State receiver Jerricho Cotchery, North Carolina defensive end Vonnie Holiday and Duke quarterback Anthony Dilweg.
Frank Beamer has been a regular guest of his son, Shane, during the 2021 South Carolina football season. Shane is in his first year guiding the Gamecocks and picked up the first signature win of his tenure in Columbia with a 40-17 throttling of Florida on Saturday.
“He’s got good football sense,” Frank told The State earlier this year. “Some people are smart as heck, but as far as football sense, they don’t have it. Shane, I really think, has good common sense, football sense, whatever you want to call it.”
USC heads to Missouri this weekend at 5-4 and needing one win in its final three games to get bowl eligible.
