What a South Carolina bowl trip means for Shane Beamer’s bank account
Shane Beamer is in line for an extra payday.
Beamer — now in the first year of a five-year deal at South Carolina that runs through Dec. 31, 2025 — has a handful of incentives built into his contract that range from reaching bowl eligibility to making the College Football Playoff.
With South Carolina at 6-5 overall heading into Saturday’s matchup against Clemson, the first-year head coach has already put himself in a position to pick up at least one bonus this fall — $100,000. His annual salary is $2.75 million.
“I‘m making more money than I ever could have dreamed I’d be making,” Beamer said Sunday in reference to a question on pressures modern-day coaches face in the SEC. “And it’s a dream for me to be a head football coach, period, but especially in the Southeastern Conference. It’s very humbling and something I’m extremely grateful for, but, having said that, the pressure to win now is unlike (ever) before.”
Beamer’s possible incentives that could be reached this season include:
- Non-CFP Bowl Appearance (except the Citrus Bowl) — $100,000
- Citrus Bowl Appearance — $150,000
- SEC Coach-of-the-Year — $75,000
- American Football Coaches Association Coach-of-the-Year — $100,000
Other incentives written into Beamer’s contract that won’t be reached this fall are:
- SEC championship game appearance — $200,000 - OR -
- SEC championship game win — $250,000
- New Year’s Six Bowl — $300,000
- CFP Semifinal Appearance — $500,000 - OR -
- CFP National Championship Game Appearance — $750,000 - OR -
- CFB National Championship Game win — $1,000,000
