Former Gamecocks assistant hired as Tony Elliott’s offensive coordinator at Virginia
A former South Carolina assistant is heading to Virginia to join former Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott’s staff with the Cavaliers.
Des Kitchings, a Columbia native who coached running backs for the Gamecocks in 2020 and most recently coached running backs for the Atlanta Falcons, will be making the move to Charlottesville to become Virginia’s offensive coordinator under Elliott, Falcons head coach Arthur Smith told the media Monday.
In his one season at South Carolina, Kitchings coached USC running back Kevin Harris en route to his breakout season. Harris finished 2020 as the SEC’s leading rusher with 1,138 yards on 185 carries.
Kitchings played college football at Furman and began his coaching career there, before also serving as an assistant at Vanderbilt, Air Force and N.C. State.
He worked as co-offensive coordinator for one season at both Vanderbilt (2010) and N.C. State (2019).
