Former South Carolina linebacker Kolbe Fields will be staying in the Southeastern Conference to continue his college career.

Fields is transferring to LSU, the school announced on Sunday. The Louisiana native announced Jan. 24 that he was entering the transfer portal.

“Kolbe comes from a winning high school football program, and he plays the game with speed and physicality. He’s a winner, and he is going to win a lot of football games as a Tiger. Good to have you back in The Boot,” LSU coach Brian Kelly posted on Twitter on Sunday.

Fields appeared in four games as a freshman with South Carolina last year and was credited with one tackle against Florida.

The three-star prospect was one of the few high school players who committed to the Gamecocks after Shane Beamer was hired in December of 2020. Much of the high school signees in the recruiting class were those who committed to Will Muschamp’s staff and stuck with the Gamecocks in the transition.

Fields originally committed to Oklahoma State and later to Memphis this summer but decommitted from the Tigers, then later committed to USC. He is the seventh former Gamecock to find a new school after entering the transfer portal.
