South Carolina’s Garnet and Black spring game is getting a new look.

The annual scrimmage, played last year in the middle of the day, will get a 7 p.m. kick for its 2022 iteration and be a part of the Big Gamecock Weekend festivities on April 16, per a news release.

“Gamecock fans have always liked their football under the lights at Williams-Brice Stadium,” South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said in a news release. “Our team will be fired up finishing a tough spring practice season performing in front of a great crowd for our Garnet and Black Spring Football Game.”

Gamecock Park will open at 3 p.m. and will be free for fans. Singer-songwriter Patrick Davis will play a pregame concert in the Gamecock Park Amphitheater between 5 and 6:30 p.m., while there will be postgame fireworks show inside Williams-Brice Stadium.

Concessions — including beer and wine — will be available during the game.

The Garnet and Black game will be preceded by the USC baseball team’s home game against Ole Miss scheduled for 1 p.m. at Founders Park.

“This promises to be a great weekend of activities for our fans,” South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner said in a news release. “Our staff has talked about putting a weekend of activities together like this for years and I am sure everyone will enjoy a ‘Big Gamecock Weekend’.”

The South Carolina football team is heading toward its second season under Beamer after a 7-6 debut campaign. USC finished its first year under its new head coach with a 38-21 throttling of North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Dec. 30.
