Gamecocks won’t have 4-star DB in freshman class
Octavis Johnson, a four-star defensive back prospect from Homerville, Ga., will not be a part of this year’s freshman class at South Carolina, a source told The State on Tuesday.
Johnson, one of the most promising members of the signing class in February, did not meet academic qualifying standards and will spend the fall at Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Va. Johnson would be able to join the Gamecocks in January if he meets qualifying standards.
The Gamecocks are still waiting to learn if defensive end Devante Covington and defensive back Toure Boyd will qualify this season. South Carolina’s recruiting class was ranked No. 20 in the nation in February.
