South Carolina men’s basketball is heading to the Lowcountry next winter.

USC will be part of a seven-team field at the 2022 Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic scheduled for Nov. 17-20, per a news release. The tournament will also include Virginia Tech, Penn State, Colorado State, Davidson, Furman, Old Dominion and College of Charleston.

The bracket has not been set, but this is the first set of games to be revealed for South Carolina’s 2022-2023 campaign.

USC has only played in the Charleston Classic twice in the tournament’s 14-year history. The Gamecocks previously participated in the event in 2014 and 2009.

South Carolina made the championship game in the 2009 tournament, downing La Salle and South Florida before falling to Miami in the title game.

The Gamecocks went 1-2 in the event in 2014, beating Cornell in the opening round and losing to Charlotte and Akron in its final two contests.

The Gamecocks are currently 18-12 and 9-9 in Southeastern Conference play heading into the SEC Tournament later this week in Tampa.

South Carolina is the No. 7-seed in the event and will play No. 10 seed Mississippi State on Thursday at 6 p.m.
