South Carolina QB teaming with ex-Gamecock Connor Shaw for spring football camp
South Carolina quarterbacks past and present are linking up — sort of.
Gamecocks signal-caller Luke Doty announced on Tuesday he’s working with ex-USC star Connor Shaw to put on a camp in Doty’s hometown of Myrtle Beach.
The camp is scheduled for May 21 and is open to kids aged 6-13. It will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at Ashley Booth Field. Registration costs $50.
Doty is heading into his third season at South Carolina after a standout high school career at Myrtle Beach. He entered the 2021 season as the presumed starter before injuring his foot during fall camp.
The former four-star recruit did appear in six games before aggravating the foot injury that initially held him out. He’s expected to be somewhat limited when spring practices begin next week.
Doty’s event is being run by Shaw Camps, which is operated by the former South Carolina quarterback. Shaw was previously on the Gamecocks staff as the director of football relations before he stepped down earlier this offseason.
The Georgia native starred under former South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier, finishing his time in Columbia with a 27-5 record and a 17-0 mark at Williams-Brice Stadium. Shaw completed 480 of 733 passes (65.5%) for 6,074 yards and 56 touchdowns, adding another 1,683 yards and 17 scores rushing.
He later spent three years in the NFL after his college career, including two seasons with the Cleveland Browns and one year with the Chicago Bears. Shaw completed 14 of 28 passes for 177 yards in his lone NFL start for the Browns against the Baltimore Ravens.
Doty isn’t the only Gamecocks player teaming with Shaw this spring. Former All-American defensive back Jaylan Foster and current defensive lineman Jordan Burch will host camps in Spartanburg and Columbia, respectively, over the next three months.
