Beamer’s Gamecocks lose another player to the portal
A fourth South Carolina football player entered the transfer portal Monday evening.
Wide receiver Eric Shaw entered the portal, a team spokesperson confirmed to The State. Shaw later confirmed his decision with a social media post.
“It’s been a pleasure to call USC my home for the past 2 years,” he shared via Twitter. “I am forever grateful for the amazing opportunity as well as the bonds that I’ve created over the past few years. With that being said I think it’s time for a fresh start and I will be entering the transfer portal.”
Earlier in the day, the Gamecocks lost wide receiver E.J. Jenkins and defensive linemen Keem Green and Devontae Davis to the portal.
A converted tight end, Shaw only saw scout team action in head coach Shame Beamer’s first season in 2021. He appeared in eight games in 2020 — mostly on special teams. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound receiver was a four-star prospect out of Reeltown High School in Alabama.
Injuries limited late in high school when he tore his ACL during his junior season, and he dealt with bone spurs during his freshman year in 2020. He was a talented athlete at Reeltown who played basketball and also won multiple state titles in hurdles and the high jump in track and field.
Beamer’s Gamecocks just wrapped up spring practices with their annual spring game on Saturday night at Williams-Brice Stadium.
