Gamecocks lose two veterans from offense to transfer portal
An offensive lineman and another wide receiver for South Carolina football will depart Shane Beamer’s program.
Fifth-year tackle Jazston Turnetine entered his name into the transfer portal, the school confirmed Friday. On3’s Matt Zenitz was the first to report the news.
The 6-foot-7, 338-pound tackle played in 11 games in 2021 for South Carolina and started seven of those. He did not play in the season’s final two games against Clemson or UNC.
Turnetine logged 10 career starts at left tackle for the Gamecocks. He is the first offensive lineman from the 2021 team to depart since spring practice, as fellow offensive lineman Vincent Murphy announced his departure back in December.
Wide receiver Trey Adkins announced his entry into the transfer portal in a tweet Friday. The 5-foot-11, 182-pound pass catcher totaled two receptions for 20 yards in 2021 and logged seven catches throughout his career with South Carolina.
Adkins wrote in a post that he’ll be transferring as a graduate with two years of eligibility remaining. He’s the fourth wide receiver to depart the Gamecocks since spring practice ended.
Athletes have until May 1 to enter the transfer portal and gain immediate eligibility for the 2022 season.
