South Carolina will break this SEC losing streak in 2022, CBS says
One national pundit thinks South Carolina can break a longstanding losing streak in 2022.
CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee released his win total projections for Southeastern Conference teams Tuesday, which included USC beating Texas A&M for the first time ever.
“Quarterback Spencer Rattler transferred to the Gamecocks and second-year coach Shane Beamer in the offseason will provide an immediate boost to an offense that didn’t get much out of the quarterback position in 2021,” Sallee wrote. “He isn’t the Heisman Trophy-caliber stud that he was being touted to be this time last year, but his strong arm and experience in the Big 12 will allow the Gamecocks to spring an upset or two en route to a seven-win season.”
Caesar’s Sportsbook projected South Carolina’s win total in 2022 at six victories, while Sallee thinks USC can go 7-5 with wins over Georgia State, Charlotte, South Carolina State, Texas A&M, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Tennessee.
South Carolina and Texas A&M became annual cross-division rivals when the Aggies joined the SEC for the 2012 football season. Texas A&M has won all eight matchups between the two schools with an 18.875-point average margin of victory. The Aggies have won the last three contests by a combined score of 122-23.
The Gamecocks head into 2022 as a darkhorse in the SEC East after securing a commitment from Rattler, among a slew of other offensive transfers.
South Carolina finished its first season under Beamer 7-6 with wins over Auburn, Florida and North Carolina, the last of which came in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
