Former Gamecock lineman joins ACC school as a transfer
Former South Carolina offensive lineman Jazston Turnetine is heading to the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Florida State officially announced Turnetine’s addition to its roster on Tuesday. He had been deciding between FSU and Michigan State.
“Jazston has tremendous size with great power and athleticism,” Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell said in a news release. “His starting experience in big games and his skillset immediately increases the competition among our offensive line group.”
The Georgia native came to South Carolina following a standout career at Hutchinson Community College (Kansas), where he earned second team All-American honors. He was rated the No. 6 JUCO offensive tackle and No. 47 player overall by 247Sports in the 2020 class.
Turnetine played in 16 games over two years with the Gamecocks, including six starts. He appeared in 11 of 13 games during the 2022 season and started five consecutive contests at left tackle against Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Florida and Missouri.
With his commitment, Turnetine becomes the third ex-South Carolina player to transfer to Florida State in recent years along with Jammie Robinson and Keir Thomas.
South Carolina returns the bulk of its offensive line from the 2022 season, and Turnetine figured to be the odd man out. Seniors Eric Douglas, Jovaughn Gwyn and Dylan Wonnum are all back. So, too, are Vershon Lee, Jaylen Nichols, Jakai Moore, Tyshawn Wannamaker and Hank Manos.
USC is coming off a 7-6 2021 season that included wins over Auburn and Florida. South Carolina concluded the season with a win over North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
