Gamecocks lose young defensive back to transfer portal
South Carolina lost a piece of its 2021 signing class on Thursday.
Defensive back La’Dareyen Craig entered the transfer portal, The State confirmed. Chris Hummer of 247Sports first reported the news.
Craig appeared in two games for the Gamecocks after signing as a three-star prospect out of Alabama. He was rated the No. 1,172 prospect and No. 101 cornerback in the 2021 class, per the 247Sports Composite that factors in all rankings.
South Carolina finished its first season under Shane Beamer with a 7-6 record, including wins over Auburn, Florida and North Carolina.
The Gamecocks are wrapping up their summer recruiting camps this week before the July dead period kicks in.
