Former Gamecock star Deebo Samuel signs lucrative new NFL deal with 49ers
Former South Carolina standout Deebo Samuel is getting paid — big time.
The San Francisco 49ers receiver/running back is receiving a three-year extension worth $73.5 million, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport. The deal will also include $58.1 million guaranteed.
Samuel is coming off his best season as a professional, helping the 49ers to the AFC title game before falling to the eventual Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. He finished the campaign with 1,405 yards receiving and six touchdowns on 77 receptions — good for 18.2 yards per catch.
The ex-Gamecock also added another layer to the San Francisco rushing attack, notching 365 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
“Herm Edwards used to tell me, ‘You can be special when you have that skill and when you have that elite will,’ ” 49ers general manager John Lynch said earlier this year. “And I think when you watch Deebo play, that’s what I see. It’s inspiring. It lifts everyone.”
Samuel finished his South Carolina career with just under 2,100 receiving yards and 16 touchdown receptions in 30 career games for the Gamecocks. His best season in Columbia came as a senior, racking up 882 yards and 11 touchdowns receiving.
The Inman product was rated a three-star recruit and the No. 828 player in the 2014 class, per the 247Sports Composite.
