Live from Arkansas: Razorbacks beats South Carolina

South Carolina’s 2022 season continues with a noon kickoff Saturday against Arkansas. The game will air on ESPN. Follow along with updates from The State’s Michael Lananna and Jeremiah Holloway, who are inside Reynolds Razorback Stadium to bring you coverage from the game.

Warren Thompson TD: Arkansas leads 35-16

Antwane Wells big TD for Gamecocks:

Antwane Wells Jr. scored a 62-yard touchdown on a pass from Spencer Rattler in an 8-play, 88 yard drive. USC trailed 21-16.

A ‘furious’ MarShawn Lloyd scores: USC trails 21-9 at half

ESPN sideline reporter Kris Budden said South Carolina tailback MarShawn Lloyd “came off the field furious” that the team abandoned the run. Not long after, Lloyd found the end zone for a 7-yard score (though the PAT was missed).

Arkansas takes a 21-3 lead after Rashod Dubinion TD

Freshman tailback Rashod Dubinion punches it in from 1 yard out to give Arkansas a 21-3 lead in the second quarter. Scoring drive: 12 plays, 61 yards, 4:53. Razorbacks scoring drives so far: 13, 12, 12 plays.

Darius Rush, Mo Kaba updates

South Carolina cornerback Darius Rush and linebacker Mo Kaba were both shake up in the second quarter on the same play. Rush landed hard on the ground while defending a pass. Kaba was on the turf after a near-sack of QB KJ Jefferson. Both made their way to the sideline. Rush returned to the game.

Sanders scores again: Razorbacks lead 14-3

A Raheim Sanders 11-yard TD run caps a 12-play, 75-yard, 4:04 drive.

Mitch Jeter field goal: South Carolina trails 7-3

South Carolina QB Spencer Rattler throws six consecutive passes on the drive, highlighted by a 43-yard gain by MarShawn Lloyd on a screen. The drive stalls and ends with a Mitch Jeter 28-yard field goal. Scoring drive is 6 plays, 65 yards, 3:10.

Raheim Sanders touchdown: Arkansas leads 7-0

South Carolina had the ball first, moving 17 yards on five plays before a punt. Arkansas took a 7-0 lead on a Raheim Sanders 1-yard TD rush. The scoring drive was 13 plays, 63 yards, 5:38 — with rushes as 11 of the 13 plays.

Alex Huntley update

Defensive lineman Alex Huntley went down with 9:40 remaining in the first quarter, and was helped off the field by members of the training staff. Huntley appeared to take a hard hit to his right side by a teammate during an Arkansas rush. He returned to the game in the second quarter.

Paul Finebaum weighs in

Starting the 2022 football season with Arkansas and Georgia among its first three games was always going to be a big challenge for South Carolina. ESPN personality Paul Finebaum said as much Saturday morning on the “SEC Nation” preview show.

“South Carolina has to win today because they have Georgia next week and suddenly they could be 0-2 in the SEC, which could be going nowhere,” Finebaum said.

Finebaum, Tim Tebow and everyone on the “SEC Nation” preview show predicted Arkansas to win the game. All the hosts the guest picker on “ESPN College GameDay” predicted a Razorbacks victory.

USC injury report, travel roster

  • OUT: Defensive back RJ Roderick (arm), wide receiver Corey Rucker (foot) and DB David Spaulding (undisclosed).
  • PROBABLE: Running back Christian Beal-Smith (foot), wide receiver Dakereon Joyner (calf).
  • QUESTIONABLE: Offensive lineman Jakai Moore (undisclosed). He did travel to Fayetteville.

Uniform report vs. Arkansas

South Carolina will suit up in all white uniforms. (USC last week wore black helmets, garnet jerseys and garnet pants against Georgia State.)

Final betting line

The point spread is Arkansas by 9.5 points, according to the VegasInsider consensus line that factors in 11 sportsbooks. The over-under is 53 points.
