South Carolina wide receiver Corey Rucker won’t play Saturday against Missouri and could be on his way to a redshirt season, Shane Beamer said Tuesday.

“I think it’s probably trending in that direction,” Beamer told reporters.

Rucker has battled a left foot injury since the summer and has only played a handful of snaps across two games this season, scoring a touchdown late in the win over Charlotte. NCAA rules allow players to see action in up to four games without losing a season of eligibility.

“If he’s able to get healthy this season, it’s probably going to be to the point where you can play him this season and preserve some games,” Beamer said. “It’s kind of a day-to-day thing with him.”

Rucker was part of the Gamecocks’ talented transfer class this offseason, joining USC from Arkansas State, where he totaled 1,269 receiving yards and 75 catches.

Transfer defensive lineman Terrell Dawkins (knee) is practicing this week and is getting closer to an on-field return, Beamer said.
