South Carolina vs Missouri live updates: Gamecocks inch closer with field goal

Tigers keep adding

Mizzou leads 23-10 after kicker Harrison Mevis made a 32-yard kick, putting USC’s four-game winning streak in jeopardy.

Mizzou tacks on a field goal

So much for momentum. As soon as the Gamecocks narrowed the deficit with a field goal, Mizzou kicker Harrison Mevis responded with a 50-yard field goal kick of his own to move it back to a two-possession game.

Gamecocks narrow deficit

The Gamecocks caught a break when Mizzou missed a chip shot 21-yard field goal, and Rattler and the USC offense pounced on that mistake by setting up a 39-yard field goal for Mitch Jeter. A 20-yard strike to Josh Vann on the drive was Rattler’s best pass of the day so far.

Rattler leads scoring drive

The Gamecocks finally found a way to get in the scoreboard, thanks in part to multiple defensive penalties by the Mizzou defense in the red zone. Quarterback Spencer Rattler rolled out to his right and scrambled seven yards for a touchdown on third down to get USC on the board.

Tigers extend lead

Missouri has kept the ball away from South Carolina, possessing the football for 14:14 minutes compared to 4:17 for the Gamecocks. For the second straight drive, Cook and the Tigers marched down the field, scoring on a one-yard rush by Cody Schrader.

Mizzou draws first blood

The Tigers jumped on the board first in their second drive of the game. Quarterback Brady Cook engineered a 15-play, 96-yard drive, and he showed his ability to run the ball, scoring the game’s first touchdown on a three-yard quarterback keeper.

Linebacker out for the game

Sixth-year linebacker Brad Johnson will not be available for the Gamecocks due to an apparent foot injury. Though Johnson is on the dress roster, Johnson is not in uniform and his left foot is in a walking boot.
