Shane Beamer updates MarShawn Lloyd’s status for trip to Florida
South Carolina starting running back MarShawn Lloyd’s status for Saturday’s contest at Florida is still TBD.
“He did practice yesterday (Wednesday) and we’ll see how things go,” head coach Shane Beamer said on his weekly radio show on Thursday night.
Lloyd missed the second half of South Carolina’s loss to Missouri two weeks ago with a thigh contusion. He didn’t practice last week, per Beamer, but has been back working out ahead of the trip to Gainesville on Saturday.
The former top-65 recruit currently ranks third in the Southeastern Conference in rushing touchdowns (9), while he currently sits eighth in yards rushing per game (69.5).
Beamer also said reserve defensive back BJ Gibson won’t play this weekend due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Nashville last week.
USC heads into the weekend after beating Vanderbilt 38-27 on Saturday in Nashville to reach bowl eligibility. Should the Gamecocks win their coming postseason game, Beamer would become the first head coach in school history to win a bowl game his first two seasons at South Carolina.
South Carolina beat Florida last season 40-17 in a game that later prompted the firing of head coach Dan Mullen, who’s since been replaced by former Furman quarterback and ex-Louisiana head coach Billy Napier.
Florida in an 8-point favorite, per VegasInsider.
