Josh Vann won’t play for South Carolina in bowl game
No. 19 South Carolina will be down one key receiver in the Gator Bowl against No. 21 Notre Dame.
USC senior pass-catcher Josh Vann will miss Friday’s game due to a knee injury suffered in the Clemson game, head coach Shane Beamer told reporters on Monday.
“Vann is not here right now,” Beamer said. “He won’t play this week.”
Vann’s left leg bent awkwardly after going airborne in the first quarter to make a 34-yard reception on a Spencer Rattler pass. The Georgia native had two catches for 56 yards in the 31-30 win over the Tigers and notched 18 catches for 296 yards on the season.
A former four-star recruit, Vann led the team last year in receptions (43) and receiving yards (679), adding five scores. He walked on Senior Day in 2021 and then again in 2022 after opting to return to South Carolina for one final season.
Beamer also noted that it’s “doubtful” that receiver Jalen Brooks plays in the Gator Bowl as he deals with what Beamer last week called an off-the-field issue.
Brooks, who finished second on the team in receiving this year behind Antwane “Juice” Wells Jr., practiced on Monday during the window open to reporters.
