Gamecocks lose transfer wide receiver Corey Rucker back to the portal, reports say
Another South Carolina offensive playmaker appears to be on the way out.
Receiver Corey Rucker has entered the transfer portal, a source confirmed to The State. ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren and The Athletic’s Max Olson first reported the news.
Rucker previously landed at USC following two years at Arkansas State.
The ex-Red Wolves pass-catcher was limited to just two games in 2022 due to a handful of injuries. Rucker caught one pass for 52 yards and a touchdown in South Carolina’s win over Charlotte. It was his only grab of the year.
The Mississippi native was prolific in his time at Arkansas State, joining the USC roster last offseason after a first time in the transfer portal.
Rucker earned FWAA freshman All-America honors in 2021. He appeared in 20 games over the two years in Jonesboro, recording 75 receptions for 1,279 yards and 14 touchdowns.
It’s not clear what Rucker’s graduation status is, but if he has not completed his undergraduate coursework, he’ll have to sit out a season before returning to competition given he already transferred once.
South Carolina has now lost four offensive skill position players since the season-ending win over Clemson. Tight Ends Austin Stogner (Oklahoma) and Jaheim Bell (Florida State) have since found new landing spots.
Running back MarShawn Lloyd has yet to announce his next school.
