Former South Carolina running back MarShawn Lloyd found himself a new home in the college football world.

The former USC standout will play for Southern Cal next season, Lloyd announced on Twitter. He announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal last month.

Lloyd will play for Lincoln Riley, who was the head coach at Oklahoma while Shane Beamer was an assistant.

Beamer said he had a conversation with Lloyd before he entered the transfer portal, visiting him before the running back went home to Maryland. The two spoke after the regular season finale against Clemson.

“Some things in his mind changed that I was not aware of, or that we didn’t talk about that day,” Beamer said. “Wish him well.”

He was South Carolina’s leading back last season and provided the team with an offensive lift. He ended the season with 749 all-purpose yards and 11 total touchdowns.

Lloyd missed some time during his tenure with USC. A thigh bruise kept him out of three games for the Gamecocks this season. He tore his ACL in 2020, missing all of his true freshman season.

South Carolina currently has two scholarship running backs — Juju McDowell and Lovasea Carroll — set to return to the team for 2023.
