South Carolina is adding a longtime NFL assistant to its staff.

Sean Ryan, who spent last season as the quarterbacks coach for the Carolina Panthers, has been hired by head coach Shane Beamer, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to The State. Ryan is expected to be an offensive analyst.

Phil Kornblut of SportsTalk Media first reported the hiring.

Ryan spent almost half of his 16 years in the NFL with the New York Giants. There, he worked as an offensive quality control coach, receivers coach and quarterbacks coach between 2007-2015. He went on to roles with the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers.

The Hudson Falls, New York native spent the early part of his coaching career in the college game with stops at Albany, Colgate, Harvard, Columbia and Boston College between 1998-2006.

South Carolina has dipped into the NFL previously for off the field help, hiring ex-Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens as an offensive analyst last season. Kitchens left to become the tight ends coach at North Carolina.

Beamer has seen a decent amount of turnover among his lower-level assistants this offseason. Offensive analysts Nick Coleman (QBs coach, UAB) and Christian Ellsworth (Offensive analyst, Nebraska) both departed for new roles in recent months.

South Carolina also replaced offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield, now working in the same role under Matt Rhule at Nebraska, with longtime NFL play-caller Dowell Loggains. Loggains joined the staff following a two-year stint coaching tight ends at Arkansas, his alma mater.
