Linebacker Mo Kaba is out for the rest of the 2023 season, South Carolina announced Tuesday.

Kaba “suffered a left knee injury early in Saturday night’s contest against North Carolina,” according to a news release. He was spotted on the sideline at Bank of America Stadium with crutches during the third quarter.

It was his first game since tearing the ACL in his right knee against Arkansas in Week 2 last year. He played a single snap in Saturday’s game, according to GamecockCentral and TheBigSpur.

Kaba also tore an ACL during his senior season of high school, limiting him to just four games. He spent his freshman year at South Carolina rehabbing the injury but played in all 13 games as a sophomore.

On Sunday Kaba posted, then deleted the following from X (formerly Twitter): “Just can’t never go my way don’t matter how hard I try.”

Kaba has 53 tackles in 25 games played, including five starts, over four seasons.

Kaba is among several Gamecocks who left the game because of injuries during Saturdays season opener: starting offensive lineman Cason Henry, top receiver Antwane Wells and starting safety Nick Emmanwori. Freshman offensive lineman Markee Anderson did not travel with the team after suffering a setback last week, coach Shane Beamer said Sunday. Receiver Ahmarean Brown also did not finish the game.

Injury update

Beamer told reporters Tuesday that Anderson, Emmanwori, defensive back David Spaulding and edge rusher Jatius Geer (who didn’t travel to Charlotte) are doubtful this week against Furman. Henry is out.

Freshman linebacker Pup Howard is expected to play versus Furman, Beamer said. He added that Howard could’ve played against UNC, but the coaching staff decided against that being his Gamecock debut after all the unpredictable injuries.

Linebacker Bam Martin-Scott should also play.

Everyone else — including receiver Ahmarean Brown (ribs) — practiced Tuesday, Beamer said, and should be good to go this weekend.
