South Carolina starting lineman could miss a few weeks with injury. Here’s his outlook
It appears South Carolina dodged more serious injury news with offensive lineman Vershon Lee.
Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer said on Thursday’s call-in radio show that Lee would be out for Saturday’s game against Missouri, but he might be back in two weeks. Lee injured his knee in last week’s loss to Florida.
“Initially, we thought it would be four to six weeks,” Beamer said. “It was one of those you-gotta-be-kidding me? But we found out yesterday it would be more like two weeks. He would be questionable for next week and probable for who we would play after that.”
USC plays at Texas A&M next weekend and then returns home to face Jacksonville State.
Lee was moved from left guard to tackle last week against Florida as the Gamecocks retooled their offensive line.
Sidney Fugar replaced Lee last week, though Beamer wouldn’t name him the starter. He said it will be a combination between him, Tyshawn Wannamker and Jakai Moore.
“Because we have had so many injuries, I think guys have experience playing everywhere on the line,” Beamer said. “When you are down to eight healthy offensive linemen, everyone has to play everywhere. ... We will be OK. It is not like we are putting someone in there for the first time.”
Other injury updates
▪ Mario Anderson (ankle) is fine and practiced all week, according to Beamer.
▪ Linebacker Stone Blanton (thigh bruise) also was injured against Florida and Beamer said he should ready by Saturday.
