Series history: Saturday marks the 10th meeting between the Gamecocks and the Aggies. Texas A&M has a perfect 4-0 record in College Station, while South Carolina is 4-1 in Columbia. Score-wise, this matchup has been all over the place. Four of the nine games in this series have been decided by no more than a touchdown, while another four have been 24-point-or-more blowouts.
Injury report, top storylines for the game
Injury report: OUT — Receiver Antwane “Juice” Wells (foot), WR Ahmarean Brown (hamstring), offensive lineman Vershon Lee (knee), OL Jaxon Hughes. The following Gamecocks are “questionable”: wide receiver Xavier Legette (upper-body injury) and offensive linemen Tree Babalade, Cason Henry and Trovon Baugh.
Crunch time for USC: The Gamecocks have dropped three games in a row for the first time since 2020. They are four wins away from bowl eligibility with five games left on the schedule. Every week becomes a must-win under those circumstances, or else South Carolina will not advance to the postseason for the first time under Beamer.
Win one on the road: Saturday marks South Carolina’s last road game of the season and a final chance to taste victory away from Williams-Brice Stadium. The Gamecocks have yet to win a game outside Columbia this season, dropping a neutral-site contest against then-No. 21 North Carolina to open the campaign then losing at No. 1 Georgia, at No. 21 Tennessee and at then-No. 20 Missouri.
Getting to the end zone: South Carolina hasn’t scored a touchdown in 13 days. The Gamecocks never made it to the end zone in Columbia, Missouri, owing their 12 points to the foot of Mitch Jeter. USC’s offense has been one of few bright spots this season, but the unit will have to end its scoring drought if the team has any hopes of besting Texas A&M.
Defense in the dumps: The Gamecocks’ total defense ranks 120th in the NCAA, allowing 446.7 yards per game. The unit struggles to get off the field, as opponents have a 42.4% success rate on third down (97th in NCAA) and a 67% success rate on fourth down (tied for 115th in NCAA). South Carolina has not, and cannot, win games with its defense playing like that.
Weather forecast for College Station
College Station will be partly sunny with a high near 85 degrees for Saturday’s game, according to the National Weather Service. There will also be a 30% chance of showers after 8 a.m. local time.
ESPN FPI game prediction
ESPN’s Football Power Index gives South Carolina a 15.4% chance to win the game.
Point spread for USC Gamecocks vs. Texas A&M Aggies
The Gamecocks are a 14.5-point underdog against the Aggies, according to VegasInsider’s consensus line. The over/under is 53.5 points.
