South Carolina’s Shane Beamer clarifies Juice Wells’ status with the team
South Carolina coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday that Gamecocks wide receiver Antwane “Juice” Wells could possibly return this season.
Wells, who entered this season as one of USC’s top receiving targets, reinjured his foot during South Carolina’s loss to Georgia in mid-September and hasn’t played since. He won’t be available for Saturday’s game against Texas A&M.
But Beamer did not want to rule out the chance that Wells sees the field at some point in 2023.
“I think there’s a chance,” Beamer said. “I don’t want to speak for Juice. I think if you asked Juice, I think he would tell you he would like to come back and play at some point this season. He’s a competitor. He wants to be out there. He’s in every meeting. He’s engaged. He’s talking. He’s working like crazy to be out there.”
And South Carolina’s injuries in the wide receivers room doesn’t end with Wells. Beamer also confirmed that WR Ahmarean Brown is “doubtful” to play against Texas A&M and Xavier Legette, who left Saturday’s game at Mizzou with an upper-body injury, is “questionable” to play against the Aggies.
Legette and the other Gamecocks who are questionable to play were all at Tuesday’s practice in some capacity, Beamer said.
”They were all not full speed,” he said. “They were all limited in their own way. Hopefully they’ll get closer to being close to 100% and able to play on gameday.”
