South Carolina running back ruled out after injury against Vanderbilt

The South Carolina running back room took another hit on Saturday.

Junior JuJu McDowell was ruled out against Vanderbilt after suffering a shoulder injury on the Gamecocks’ second possession of the game. Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer told SEC Network that McDowell is out for the rest of the contest.

McDowell caught an 18-yard pass on third down and had a two-yard run on in the drive before leaving. He returned the sidelines after being ruled out.

“I just told him I loved him,” Beamer said on the TV broadcast.

USC already was without Dakereon Joyner. Freshman Djay Braswell will serve as the backup behind starter Mario Anderson. Braswell caught a 30-yard pass to set up South Carolina’s second touchdown of the game.

McDowell came into the game with 61 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the season. He also caught 10 passes for 87 yards and a TD.
